I am a 50 year old retired military female looking for an adventure. Would like to sail east coast and beyond. Looking for a female captain that wants a female first mate. I do not smoke and only drink a glass of wine or half beer a month. Hard work, honesty and integrity are my core values. Have sailed single mast and catamaran's. Love to sail. Am available now.

Went out with Third Coast cruising on Windy. It was an interesting experience, but the main impression I walked away with was that I'm not terribly interested in sailing tall ships. I missed having winches and the whole thing just seemed a little more complicated than I would enjoy.

Karen and I and a bold crew of three hardy sailors went out Sunday morning for a sail. We had a careful eye on the weather, as there was significant rain to the west of us. Karen and I got out to the boat and encountered the only major issue on the day - nobody knew the combination to the new lock on the lazarette! Karen and I put up the dodger and bimini and then while waiting for the bolt cutters to arrive, we played with the lock and discovered the combo.

Last night, I went out with Captain Jim from Third Coast Cruising. This was a different experience than the previous classes. For one thing, there was a wider mix of skill levels. There was a "1st Mate", Brock, who is also a BroadReach member (we share Lily with him). There were maybe 4-5 others who had various skill levels, but were basically beginners. One woman seemed to be along for the boat ride, and didn't actually do much.

With the ASA coursework out of the way, it's time to practice what we've learned. Last night I went out with Captain Pam again on Lily, along with several other Broadreachers to get certified to take her out by ourselves.

Now, we had a REALLY beautiful day for sailing! Captain Ben explained that we were going to take turns acting as skipper for an hour each day. Part of the idea was that we had to explain what it was we wanted done, as if we were sailing with non-sailor friends and family. I was up first (gulp!).
