I recently purchased an American 16. I am a novice sailor so my technical opininoin wouldnt be worth much but she seems very easy to rig and sail. Only light air thus far but am enjoying the boat very much. I would recommend it to anyone looking to learn to sail as they can be found in relative abundance and are fairly inexpensive. Just make sure that everything is with the boat as replacing parts can be expensive.
Also the owner of American Sail of Charleston, SC, Dave Stanton, left the original manufacturer of the American 16 around 1976 and is very fond of these boats and can help with parts or information.
