Dpeavey is right on. I recently bought a second Vic 18 (I sold the first many years ago because I didn't have time to sail much back then). The addition of a screened, opening portal on the front of the cabin made a big improvement on ventilation. Beware of too much engine--the lazarette really does compromise the strength of the after deck and motor mount. Though, I understand that some were built without the lazarette (and without battery/lights), which mitigates this problem. Sails well in light air with main and Genoa. Also does well in stiff breeze with reefed main and jib. In between, with main and jib, she has a bit too much weather helm. Over all, a great boat for day sails and weekend trips.

I have the Niagara version with the factory installed race package: boom-vang, inboard genoa/jib track, all halyards and other controls lead to cockpit, adjustable split back-stay, jiffy reefing, two 2 speed winches, 6 winches total, mid-boom sheeting with cockpit traveler, and internal halyards. The Niagara version interior has a teak and holly sole and more teak trim. Mine had the handrails removed for racing. I installed new, smaller, sturdy stainless steel handrails that look and work great. Very little exterior wood, which I like. The boom sits high which made adding a bimini very easy. I used a very light aluminum bimini that easily/quickly comes off for races; it works and looks great. Cabin has a new aft port side marine head and some new electronics. I removed the folding table and v-berth partition/cushion for a more open cabin. The cabin feels very spacious for a 24' boat. Headroom in my original 1978 manual is listed as 5'6''. Overall it's a great weekend cruiser for my small family. 6-8 people can be comfortable for a light air daysail. On choppy days the bow and cabin top can get splashed. A 5hp longshaft outboard cruises around 5.5 knots easily and has never fully cavitated in some decent bay weather. I race it in regattas and weekly club races . In PHRF and Portsmouth the boat does great. In mixed wind conditions it consistently sails to it rating. In certain wind conditions it sails much better than its PHRF rating. This is my sixth sailboat. Construction on this boat compared to others is solid: old school sturdy fiberglass, stout spars, and heavy duty rigging. Overall after cruising and racing every week for two years, I think the C&C 24 is still one of the better racer/cruiser designs in its size.

Purchased a Seidelmann 299 a couple of months ago. Concur with these other reviews. I am on Vancouver Island on the West Coast of Canada, and unaware of any other boats of this type in this area. Despite the shallow bilge, have not experienced any issues with bilge water on the cabin sole. Lot's of room for a 30 footer. This one in excellent shape with all new electronics, canvas and elec. anchor windless. No blisters in hull, no cracking or delamination found anywhere. This one equiped with a 3 cyl Yanmar 3GMD. Motors at 6 knots @2200 rpm. Very happy with it overall.

I am looking at a 26 c&c with the deeper keel . It has been in storage for 2 seasons under shrink wrap lots of wet cushions and water in the bilge. I am not sure if it is worth putting more money and work into the boat . Engine stringers are not glassed in at the end grain and seem a little soft with a penetration of 1/4 in or more into the end grain. Engine compartment has some dark gray on all the wood around the engine. Fuel tank is steel and has rust on the outside lower ends so I don't know if any rust is on the inside . Don't know how long the tank will last and how deep the rust has penetrated the wall of the tank. Not much room to work on engine or fuel tank . Engine is yanmar 9 hp single cylinder diesel. Exterior has nice paint Imron I think and decks have been painted too. Not sure if it is worth buying with so many issues. I had a seidelmann 299 that was in about the same condition and it was a lot of work . Anyone own a C&C 26 that can tell me where else to look for weak spot on this design. I always liked the C&C brand. In fact I own a 24 ft Mirage designed by C&C but I need a little more room so I was considering the C&C 26

Thought about selling her a few years ago, but I thought I would miss her too much. More fun with two, but can be single-handed in all but the highest winds, if you have a good sail selection.

We lived aboard full time for 8 years and part time for 8 more. She is a fast passage maker and a comfortable boat to live aboard. She has served us well cruising from Nashville to the Gulf of Mexico, the US east coast, Bahamas, and as far as Columbia. Great storage, fast, strong, and beautiful.

Wow! I had awful lee helm, The Montego is my first boat. I had sailed three times to get my ASA101, and never seen the boat rigged, bought on trailer. My lee helm was resolved with good halyard tension on both main and genoa, and looser sail trim. She does not like the jib oversheeted. There is a Montego group on yahoo, a lot of great info there for new sailors like me.
