Built by the Johnson Boat Works of
Minnesota. Shoal keel with a
center-board. Closely resembles
a Precision 18. The ballast is
2 removable lead weights of about
100# each. The boat weighs about
1200# (without ballast). A well
built easily trailerable boat.

This is more of an update than a review.
I just got an email from a Johnson 18 fan.
It seems that after building ~150 boats, production of this highly-regarded 18 stopped. Then Catalina bought the molds, built 12 boats, but they never got a handle on the marketing reqs.
Currently, a California boatbuilder is negotiating for the rights to the name and molds. If things work out, the 18 is expected to become available in both its original configuration, and a carbon version with tapered mast and trap.
I've always loved this boat. I hope it makes a strong comeback.

This is a review of the Johnson 18. Not the Johnson 18 Weekender.
The Johnson 18 is a 2 person sailboat designed by Rodger Martin. See http://johnson18.org/ for more information.
