Pros: lighter, longer lwl than catalina 30, therefore faster. shoal draft 4 feet but with wide beam it is very stable.Very similiar layout to Catalina, below.
Cons: I have owned the boat for two seasons, and sail on the great lakes. There is nothing that I have noticed that is negative in this cruiser, except for cosmetic surface cracks in the gel coat, in the mast area.(tested by surveyor as dry and sturdy]

Laguna 30
In keel boats I have worked up from a tanzer 22 through a hughes 31 to this boat. I have found it very comfortable and stable to sail single handed. It has a very nice and spacious T shaped cockpit, with a wheel, and all but mainsail reefing lines lead aft. The main cabin has a nice layout with a U shaped galley and U shaped dining area. I am retired and sail on Lake Huron, with one 5 week trip to the North channel. In impromptue racing, you know what I mean, even single handed, The Laguna 30 is faster than the Catalina 30. This is because of the longer LWL ,smaller wetted area, and lower weight, of the Laguna to that of the similar Catalina30. If you are looking for an old boat, a nice cruiser with good legs, this is worth looking at.
