Pros:
Cons:

High volume, high freeboard, huge storage, vulnerable ports in pilothouse, entry to pilothouse dangerous while sailing downwind as jibed boom would definitely hit you. Known weakness in hull ahead of keel, fairly easily fixed with a plan from Moody's. Poor to moderate windward performance (leeway ++), Mizzen of little use at any point of sail other than a reach. Excellent Perkins 4-236. Pounds to windward in heavy seas. Probably not ideally suited for trans-oceanic voyages. Front opening frig unable to cope with warm weather. Solid glass hull (no core). No osmosis after 18 years. Cored deck never a problem. Superb coastal cruiser for family. I have sold mine, with regrets, after 12 years of excellent service. I found Moody's to be an exceptionally good company to deal with.

Pros:
Cons:

I did buy a used Moody 42 a couple of months ago and my only experience with the type is so far the delivery cruise from Glasgow/Scotland to Stockholm/Sweden, almost 1500 NM. To perfom satisfactory under sail she needs wind, quite much of it. She does not point too high thou, quite understandable, but if if you let her sail freely she will be surprisingly fast to windward. She is tracking very well and can be kept on her own quite long. After passing almost 100 locks (Crinan, Caledonian and Gota Canal) we really appriciate our newly installed bowthruster. She´s heavy and has a lot of windage so a thruster was really of big advantage. A weak point is the mizzenmast step. There is no pillar so the bridge deck shows a noticeable bend. I plan to ad a pillar between the hull and mast step. Otherwise she seems to be strongly built and fairly well finished. On my boat there are some additional floors at the aft and fore ends of the keel. This was done a long time ago according to drawings from Moody´s.
I will be back with more info when my experience grows!
