Quick and stable. Very good overall performance, especially in light air. Roomy interior,large settees,ample V-berth and lots of storage. Atomic 4 provides plenty of power but rudder torque makes distance motoring a chore. I know several other owners and all are very satisfied,as am I.

Modified fin keel, spade rudder sloop. Good, inexpensive small inland family cruiser. Relatively spacious inside because the cabin house extends to the gunwales. Large lazarettes.
Difficult to steer when motoring due to excessive torque steer. Slow motoring. Sails nicely.
Large companionway, relatively small cockpit drains. I would not want to flood the cockpit in a trailing sea. Universal medalist 11 hp motor is good, transmission is not good. Engine is difficult to remove due to inaccessible bolt-heads under motor mounts. The motor is apparently bolted to the fiberglass liner, then the liner is attached to the hull. Inadequate single lifeline and stanchions. The deck leaks on my boat, probably due to delamination of the deck around the mast, it appears to be easy to repair though. This is my first boat, and I have been more-or-less pleased with it, and consider it a good value. But I plan on buying a 42' boat to offshore cruise.

Sloop rig. Repowered with a Yanmar 2QM15 and am very happy with the results. Heavy helm under power. Preforms great under sail. Great light air preformer. Good family coastal cruiser. Have owned several other boats, but this would make a great first boat. Cannot get real interested in another boat at this time due to the prefomance of this one.

newport 27 tiller steering, flush deck. I owned the boat for over a year and have been dieing to find some info on her. I would assume it was origanally equipted with a atomic 4 gas i got the boat after the inboard was removed and replaced with a 15hp outboard. Ihave done a lot with this boat totally refitted interior, converted head to a shower,installed cruiseair a/c {i live in miami} insulated existing icebox and installed ac/dc refrig unit,replaced weak table with a strong formica table strong enough to lay on, the list goes on. A few things i could use some help with is i want to replace the outboard with a inboard atomic 4 or even better a diesel i dont really know what would be a appropriate horsepower or what would fit. Another thing is i would like to replace the tiller with a wheel can it be done? lacking the reliability and needed power of the inboard has not stoped me from covering some decent ground, I sailed from my hometown of miami fl to cape canaveral 3 times about 150 mile ocean cruise. as sone as i can install a decent inboard with a alternator i plan to sail to the bahamas for a few weeks. Any one with some info i would greatly appriate your help.

A great little pocket cruiser. A very traditional looking design that was very well built, like many British boats. Tender at first but then she stiffens right up. A joy to sail, espescially when the wind and seas kick-up. Properly outfitted this boat could take you most anywhere.

The Newport 27-S is a good all-around boat for offshore racing, cruising, and stay-aboard sailing. The cabin has a very open feel, offers 6’ 2” headroom and accommodates up to five overnight passengers. This Newport 27 is a sloop rig, fin keel with 2,500 lb. ballast, spade rudder, and deck stepped mast sailboat. Navigation is easy with the Navico tiller pilot system and the roomy aft cockpit. She is well equipped with two Lewmar two-speed genoa winches and three single speed halyard and mainsheet winches. Her sail inventory includes mainsail and 100% and 150% Genoas, both in good condition. Other canvas deck accessories are brown mainsail cover, full canvas cockpit cover, and tan vinyl cockpit cushions
Safety gear includes life vests, flare gun, fire extinguishers, man overboard flag, throwable life preserver mounted in cockpit, bow anchor with line and rode, and bow roller. Safety lines and stainless steel bow and stern railings circumscribe boat and provide good working deck areas topside. The deck also offers safe stowage areas, including two large lazarettes including electrical lighting under cockpit bench to port and starboard plus an anchor locker at bow.

Having an original design Newport 27-1, I have the Port Dinette set-up. Previous owner upgraded the Atomic 4 to a Universal 20hp which provides more than enough power, although could be a tad bit quieter. Nice room in main saloon, however the "over 6' headroom" stops well short of the head/hanging closet, so watch your step (head). Easy to single hand when sheets/lines are lead aft to the cockpit and an overall delight to sail. C&C designs are everywhere you look for a reason; these guys knew what they where doing. While I wouldn't cross the Atlantic with this boat, I will cross the Gulfstream in the right weather window. Awesome coastal cruiser & weekender, especially for that couple/family just getting started in their lifelong sailing careers!
