Pros:
Cons:

The O'Day 30 is a fin keel design, draft 5', beam 11', using a standard full battened main, roller furling 150% jib. Definitely not a racer, except in class racing, she is a comfortable cruiser in most weather conditions. She sleeps four comfortably, 6 good friends, has a wide cabin lauout and ample storeage for weekends or weekly cruises.
Features / Strenghts:
* Beaminess allows for plenty of interior room and easy movement on deck.
* 11,000 lb weight, makes for a slow starter but a smooth ride, even in 4 to 6' seas.
* Interior is well partioned between V-Berth, head and main salon for adequate privacy.
* Originally equipped with two speed Barient winches, when upgraded with two speed self tailers an easy singlehander.
* Just enough wood on the exterior to look finished but not be a maintenance nightmare. Interior well apportioned with teak.
Weaknesses:
* Choppy one cylinder diesel (Yanmar 14hp) powerplant.
* The boats age is requireing gradual updating of electronics, exterior gear ( tackle, lines etc. ).
Thus far have replaced depth, speed indicators as well as added GPS. Signet AWI, still working faithfully.
Overall Satisfaction:
* Since purchased (4 years ago) we have cruised every summer, April to November, and have been satisfied with sailability, convenience and comfort.
* Comfortable for day sails with 6 to 8 people or week long voyager with two or four.
* The powerplant though choppy, is dependable, economical (typically 10 gal / season) and moves the boat along at 7 to 8 knots.
* Cabin layout is open and spacious and fairly comfortable for sleeping.
* Add a dodger and a fly and you have a comfortable, nice to cruise around in boat, easy to maintain, economical to operate and roomy enough to enjoy.

Beamy comfortable cruiser able to be short-handed; great in heavy air or seas; very well constructed; great looking; finest boat owned for tall person sailing on unpredictable Lake Erie

Pros: Headroom, room below, layout, sailing ability, draft
Cons:

Sails well and has lots of room, with great headroom. Excellent draft (3' 2"with swing keel version. Not too large for single handing, docks easily and the universal m18 is powerful enough to handle the current at the Blue Water Bridge in Port Huron rather well. I have owned one for 8 years and am very happy with this particular boat.
