I have hull number 12, Odyssey 30, which was launched in 1995. The mast is 2 feet less than standard and the boom is 2 feet longer. This gives a lower center of pressure and the boat is very much stiffer. The weight distribution below is different and this brings the boat onto plane very quickly in higher wind speeds (9-10kts in 20+kts of wind). At this speed the boat is well under control with the big spade ruder.
The boat, loaded weight at 8,800lbs, has a Pentax Race main and a Kevlar 150 Genoa, no reefs until 25kts apparent, approx 620 square feet. With the gennaker and main the sail area is just under 1,000sqft. Also in lighter air the boat performs well. I find it a good all round boat that is good for cruising and also racing.
I don't have the barrel bolts, so don't have that problem.
I have a Vetus waterlock so have not had any problems with the exhaust.
The accomodation in a 30 footer is more than adequate for 2 for cruising and easilly handles 4-5 on distance races.
