A fairly stiff sloop-rigged boat that tracks well - long keel with cutaway forefoot and skeg, good sail area (fairly high aspect ratio), and very comfortable living accommodations for a couple, anyway. Recognizable due to her sweeping bow and sugar-scoop stern, the Rival 32 is easy on the eyes. Her strengths include a sturdy hull and incredible stowage space. Her main weaknesses are; the tendency to sail around the anchor (especially if only one is set and the winds blow above 20 knots), balsa-cored decks (at least in the 1978 model) and cockpit seats that are not very comfortable (a ridge in the back about mid-spine can really get to you after weeks at sea...). I have no significant experience on any other vessel and do not seek same... Maybe it's an issue of "first love" but my Rival 32, after 20,000 Atlantic miles and 8 years of liveaboard cruising, is my only boat.
