Pros:
Cons:

Comfortable Family Cruiser with berthing for upto 5 (better with 4). The S2 8.0B sails fairly well in a variety of weather conditions. We sailed in Long Island Sound and Narragansett Bay. It handles better in moderate to heavier winds, than light winds. It's relatively dry for its size.

We both cruise and race this boat, but with its handicap of (219/235) its one of the slower boats in the fleet for its size. The cruising comforts are roomier than some 30 footers, great for weekend cruising with our family of 4.

We had some problems with plexiglass windows leaking and eventually breaking. We tried to contact S2 about the window molds or have them custom built, but neither option was fruitful. We reinstalled them and they have been OK for a couple years.

Easy to handle, great starter boat for family cruising

Pros:
Cons:

I sailed an S-2 Model 8.0B for five years on the Chesapeake. She was our "learning" boat -- very stiff, very forgiving. She rarely heeled more than 35 degrees even in 30 knots on a beam reach, with the main and a storm trisail up without reefs. However, we found this model not overly well balanced -- lots of weather helm. She'll make you work for your pleasure. Best viewed as a pocket cruiser -- very limited room below. Sailing for two was comfortable, but if you're going to overnight, four people will need to be good friends.

Maintenance: The Atomic 2 motors are on their out. Parts are horrid to lay hands on. Replacements are expensive ($4000 plus for a marine diesel in that 10 HP size). Rebed your stancions regularly, and be especially careful of the seals on the Starboard shroud and chain plate. We had a main bulkhead full of water before we figured out where the leak was. On the plus side, we had zero problems with hull blisters.
