Pros:
Cons:

The boat is very good, but the customer service from the top down, not the dealer who is excellent, at Beneteau USA is arrogant and unresponsive. It is very disappointing.

Pros:
Cons:

I have the two cabin model with in-mast furling. On the first outing with the new boat a lot of the interior trim fell off,the overflow container for the engine was too small spilling coolant all over the engine compartment, the instruments failed totally and the generator wouldn't start. Now, one year later the genset is back at the manufacturer and I've fixed most of the warranty issues myself. The dealer, Annapolis Yacht Sales tried as best they could but Beneteau USA was pretty much unresponsive. That said, the boat sails wonderfully. The only rigging changes needed is to make the genoa cars line controlled on a 4 to 1 purchase system like the traveler. That has made a major difference in the ability to trim the genoa when going upwind in fairly heavy air.

Pros: Sails wonderfully
Cons: Beneteau Support

I have a 3 cabin French built 473. In summer 2005 I sailed her across the Atlantic via the northern great circle route from the UK, via Nova Scotia to the Chesapeake. She was a delight to sail especially considering most of the trip was upwind.

However, I have to agree with other reviewers that Beneteau's support is appalling. I only have experience with the French office, but they don't seem to give a damn once they have the check. My dealer in France did a great job, but even so I still have issues that have not been fixed.

My biggest problem is with the mounting plate for the temporary inner forestay. I use this stay for a heavy weather jib and storm jib. It is therefore an important safety feature. The problem is that as fitted by Beneteau it is just not up to the job, and under tension lifts off the deck opening up a gap through which water leaks on to the forward bunk. Beneteau have tried to fix this three times and it still leaks. Bad design and worse support. Please let me know if you experience the same problem.

That having been said, for the money it is a wonderful yacht and I would recommend the 473 to anyone.

Let me know if you have questions

Nigel

Pros: Good sailing fast
Cons: None noted

The 473 is a greeat boat. fast, dry and stable. We had a great dealer, Sailing Specialties in CT USA and they mopped up the early grwoing pains. I had few major issues with the boat. Bad water pump ( Esterbeake fixed under waranty). Nothing major. Fit and finish is good and and a great value. While not an Oyster, a boat at a certain level of quality is as good as her crew. Fit and finish is fine and most important serviceable. I had her out is some bad weather and nothing broke and she just plugged along. I liked her so mucj I sold her and bought a Beneteau 57.

The 57 is another boat entirely. The fit and finish are done to another level ( although so is the price). The 473 is a simple boat that sails well and never disappoints.

Strong points for good systems for ground tackle. Great cockpit terrific onwers stateroom forward. Main salon is great also. Rear berths are a tad short changed but something has to give in 47 feet.
