It appear as though the company that provides our Chat feature recently updated their software and now one of their modules is being 'mis-classified' by Norton/Symantec and possible containing a virus. The Shields is a one-design 30' open cockpit sloop currently built by Cape Cod Shipbuilding of Wareham, MA (see their website). I use mine for singlehanded daysailing and occasional club racing in Maine. She was designed in the early 60's by Olin Stephens and has the long overhangs, large mainsail, 7/8ths working jib, sweeping sheer and deep keel (4'8") of a 6 meter or International One-Design. Displacing 5000+ pounds she is lovely to look at and sails very easily in winds up to 12 knots, when additional crew are needed for control and handling. I keep her on a Triad Trailer (Danbury, CT) in winter and care for the fiberglass hull, cockpit liner and minimal teak trim by myself. A side bracket with a three hp outboard will get her home in a calm but is not powerful enough to be used in winds over 20 knots. Shields are raced actively with crews of four and have a national organization and conduct national championships annually. There are fleets in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Texas, Chicago and elsewhere. Used boats can be had for $6-20,000, depending on their condition and equipment. Our ROSALITA is # 56 in the class of 240+.

Pros:	Competitive day racer
Cons:	Wet with any sort of sea

This is a great boat for competitive day racing. Its members (past and present) include many world class racers. The class rules keep the costs down for racings (by limiting number of sail purchases - for example). The boat can easily handle seas (near shore) and winds up to 25 knots and continue to race. for more details about the class see shieldsclass.com
