Having made the rounds of Lagoons, Fountaine Pajot, Gemini, and others we stumbled on a used Victory 35. The construction is as good as any we've looked at (we also own a Passport 40) but the livability is fantastic all in a small, affordable cat. The galley is up, but like a small apartment's kitchen. Two good sized cabins with queen berths and a third cabin with a double. The master hull with shower is very roomy.
It's solid fordeck, vs. tramps are great for working and lounging. The cockpit is well protected and very comfortable. The helm has great visability. Unlike some other cats, you can stand in the cockpit and see over the cabin.
Downsides, they all have them, it's a high freeboard boat which some don't like the looks of, but all we get are great comments from dock visitors. But it's the windage combined with a single engine that is the biggest challenge. But the sonic leg swivels making it pretty easy to dock and manuever even with only 1 engine.
The sailing is pretty good, though we haven't put it through it's paces fully. We've had it to 10 knts and it goes best in heavier winds because the rig is somewhat small. When going into a chop we get quite a bit of hull slap on the aft sections of the hulls, but but you get used to it.
I believe this is a much better boat than the Gemini, and good used ones cost about the same as a Gemini.
UPDATE:
We've now sailed the boat a lot more. We crossed the Straits of Juan de Fuca to Victoria Canada and did some Canadian cruising. Really nice boat. We were able to sale on a broad reach at 6-7 knots with some pretty good chop. Although the motion is quick, again you get used to it and it becomes fun. We seem to be able to sail at about 1/2 windspeed in winds of 6-15 kts.
Bonus - the 16' beam let us tie up between other boats in the prime marina allowing a great show of street entertainers and tourists.
After several more months of ownership and sailing we really love the boat.
