Designed by Laurent Giles as a competitive cruiser racer to rate at 1/4 ton under the IOR rules ~ a tentative step into racing from a traditionally cruiser-based company. Further models were produced which fitted the 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton classes. Quick and exciting, the class was not fast enough for out-and-out IOR but also alienated Westerly's core market and production ceased after about three years. Well-built to Westerly's usual standards, they have lasted and continue to give much satisfaction on the club-racer circuit, especially for dinghy sailors moving up. Both masthead and 7/8ths rig versions were produced, with either inboard and outboard engines and various degrees of fitout.
Hold their price well and are fun to sail.
