Manufactured from 1979 to 1986 by Ouyang Yachts of Whitby Ontario, Aloha 27's (8.2) are a very good pocket cruiser. They are extremely solid and have good amenities. There is ample headroom throughout (+6 ft.) and well appointed. Very easy for two people to sail and when equipped with roller furling and led back, singlehanded. Fractional rig makes the vessel easy to handle. Osmosis is pretty much a non-issue, as is delamination.
Resale value is outstanding! ($21K-$26KCdn)
The early 27's had encapsulated keels, while the later models were hung.
Production ceased in 1986 with the last sail number 188.
However, the mold was purchased from the factory after Ouyang went under by DH Boatbuilding of Tatamagouche NS Canada and two more were built.
At the time he purchased the 27 mold, he test-sailed the A27 and A28. Finding the 28 to be slightly more tender, he opted to buy the 27.

We moved from a Tanzer 22 to our Aloha 27 18 months ago and enjoyed a very full season this year.
We have developed great confidence in her thus far as she has proven to be a solid sailing boat with great handling characteristics. We spent the entire summer with a 110 headsail on a furler and never really wished for more power. While we don't race we did perform well upwind next to a couple of boats that are rated substantially faster. (C & C 27)
The large main needs to be reefed before you see 20 knots but the boat just stands up and sails faster once reefed anyway.
With the fractional rig she even moves relatively well under main alone, something our Tanzer did not do.
We have a 2 cyl Westerbeke 13 hp deisel with a 2 blade fixed prop that moves us effortlessly at 5 knots and 6 under full power towing a heavy hard tender. Fuel usage is in the area of 1/3 gal/hr roughly. I didn't keep daily track as the usage for the whole summer came to less than 20 gallons, proof that we sail mostly I guess.
The interior is beautiful and large enough for weekending and the week we spent away (couple with energetic 60 pound puppy)
In short while it is not extreme in any area, this boat does everything you could ask from 27 feet and does it well. We would to install a bow roller if given the opportunity.
