Cascades are either owner or factory finished boats with very strong hull layups. My boat is hull #3. As far as I know they all have iron keels with skeg-hung rudders. The Cascade is on the small side as 42' sailboats go due to being less beamy than newer production boats. There are also a lot of 'HS' or high-side models out there. These boats are more roomy due to about 1 extra foot of freeboard. This makes for a very roomy boat, but I never found one that I liked the looks of. Just recently they have been making a stretched 42 - a Cascade 44 - which is a bigger boat which also seems to be more aesthetically pleasing. Many of these
boats have been extensively cruised in the Pacific. Due to
their strength and watertightness (no teak decks!) I think they make great bluewater cruising sailboats.
