Pros:
Cons:

The majority of 29' Cascades were sold as a kit. This means there are various Cascade 29's all finished a little bit differently. Ours was finished with lots of mahogony and brass and is very "classic" looking. She has an inboard 35hp Atomic 4 that purrs like a kitton. It is plenty of HP to get her moving at a good solid clip. She sails beautifully under her working sails and is fingertip all the way in (in light and heavy winds). She is very easy to maneuver both under sail and motor. She has ample storage in the cockpit and cabin. The cabin is quite spacious for a 29'. A stove sits to port and the sink/counter/icebox to starboard. A port and starboard settee (as well as a pull down table), both long enough to sleep comes next followed by a port seperate marine head and starboard hanging locker. The Vberth is spacious and sleeps two quite nicely. She is spritely and fast, all the while remaining amazingly stable in heavy winds. I would recommend a Cascade 29' to anyone looking for a timeless, classic pocket cruiser.

I almost owned one, and after learning more about them I have wanted to own one ever since. I have started a non-commercial, interactive website dedicated to the cascade 29. Please stop by at http://groups.msn.com/cascade29sloops and join in.

Pros: Solid Glass hull
Cons: Home built

Cascades were sold as a bare hull. A deck was also available, but many of owners/builders constructed a deck themselves. My surveyor recommended not buying a Cascade with the home built deck. Since the interiors of Cascades are all wood, dry rot is a big issue with these boats. Rot in the deck could require a complete rebuild. If the original owner was skilled wood worker, and if the boat was well maintained over the years, this boat could be a good buy. Hulls layed-up before 1974 have little problem with blisters, but because of a change in the resin on later boats can have a blister issue.
Sailing, the boat can be tinder. It is also easily overpowered. It tends to have too much weather helm if not reefed early. The handling can be a bit twitchy at any time. The boats with the skeg tracks well, but are a handful under power. The versions with the bow sprit are said to be more balanced, but I never noticed a big difference. The boat doesn't need the extra sail area from the bow sprit.
