Pros:
Cons:

This Catalina model was first made in 1993 and has been a
huge success with about 500 made to date. It is very
spacious and carries the beam (11'9") almost all the way to
the stern. Storage space is excellent and the interior lay
out is very accommodating. The 320 has double spreaders and
very wide catwalks for ease in moving about the boat. The
observation seats on both sides of the stern are the best
seats in the house. She sails very well in moderate to heavy
winds, but not as well in light airs. The wing keel adds to
stability but does lose a little in pointing. The first mate
is extremely happy with the galley layout and general
cleaning aspects.

Overall we are very satisfied with the 320 and are anxiously
awaiting our 4th season to begin.

Pros:
Cons:

On changing the oil and servicing the engine I notice the following problem. In the aft cabin, the hatch board that is closes to the engine is in such a position that it is rubbing a hole in the exhaust hose that runs from the water injection exhaust to the muffler. this may not occur on all boats but was found on mine which allowed exhaust fumes to enter the cabin area. Advise all owners to inspect this area.

At this time I have over 4,000 miles under the keel and 650 hours on the 30b-3 Westerbeke engine. I am extremely pleased with the sailing performance. The boat points very well with its wing keel. The boat handles 20 knot breezes without reefing or furling the genoa (130%)

Pros:
Cons:

Love the boat and how she handles, however have found the following two problems. 1. The sea hood is delaminated and Catalina has not responded to me. 2. The raw water intake hose on the forward side of the engine passes over the edge of the engine well and vibration was wearing it away. Could be very emotional when it wears through.

Pros:
Cons:

The perfect mid-size sailboat. Very large cockpit, bright, roomy interior. Surprisingly large aft cabin.Everything well thought out. Easy and fun to sail. Over 700 built since 1994. Uses Perkins or Yanmar diesel depending upon year built. Active owner's association with own website continually sharing information on every aspect of sailing and maintaining the boat. In many cases resale value as high or higher than original cost.

Pros:
Cons:

This is the start of our 3rd season in the boat and we couldn't be happier. Othe maintained systems such as the fuel and water filters are very accessible. One upgrade we have completeed is change out of the soft bronze propshaft with stainless.I would also recommend at a new owner purchase an aftermarket engine repair manual to aid in learning how to bleed the fuel system and change the raw water impellar. The Catalina owners manual leaves a lot to be desired but the a lot of information is available through the OEM website of RayMarine, etc.
She's a great boat that will get you home.

I read about your 2000 Catalina 320. Are you still in love with it?? We are looking for a late model boat ourselves right now, preferably a Catalina 320

Pros: Reasonable performance for a heavy coastal cruiser with awesome space for a 32
Cons: I haven't found any yet after 3 yrs of ownership

I have number 724 deep keel version and sail her in the western LI sound. I am a beer can racer and a family cruiser. That means I like to trim sails and go fast but also want to be comfortable on a weekend cruise.

What first impressed me when I sailed her was her speed. This boat is fast for what she is a beamy heavy coastal cruiser. In the beer can races I am as competitive as the crew I am racing with and as good as our decisions tactically etc. We have done pretty well in a competitive fleet with a lot of heavy competition.

Cruising - I have 2 small children and a wife. The boat is perfect for my needs I can single hand her with the only problem being the main sheet controls being mounted on the coach roof, but that is what the autopilot is for.

In short she is a great boat that does many things well but nothing perfect. I would definitely recommend her to anyone looking for a great boat you get a whole lot of boat for your money
