Just purchased a well-maintained 83 Catalina 30 and have had her out in Lake Erie. Sails very easily and the Universal 23 hp diesel is more than adequate. Lots of room in the cockpit and in the cabin. Being rather tall (6ft 3), the headroom is nice. Overall just a great boat for the money.

Pros:
VERY comfortable in and out. Very forgiving. Easy to sail. Maneuvers beautifully power or sail.

Cons:
High weather helm at higher wind speeds. More purchase needed for mainsheet. Hood furler difficult and doesn't hold reef.

I moved up to this '91 boat from a 22 Chrysler and haven't stopped moving yet. I love to sail this boat in all conditions....although when breeze moves over 12 knots, weather helm increases exponentially. The "apartment" is beautifully appointed and planned. The 25xp universal is a dream. Have her for 5 years now and will never look back.
