The Meleonseed Skiff is a 13' sprit rigged sailboat that was
developed in the late 1800s as a gunning boat. Crawford builds a fiberglass version (wooden versions are available from other builders). Much of the boat is decked over, with a smallish cockpit that can accomodate two people with reasonable comfort.

The sprit rig has three very nice advantages, one person can set up easily, it stows in the boat when you feel like rowing, and it gives the already beautiful hull a pleasant traditional look. Not to mention that its remarkably efficient both running and beating. I like a boat that moves!

This is a great boat for singlehanded gunkholing in sheltered or semi-sheltered waters. Despite its small size
its very stable. The hull shape, low center of effort of the sprit rig, and decking all add up to a really seaworthy little boat. It can get a little wet in a chop but thats part of the fun.

I've trailered my Melonseed from Western N.Y. to Virginia
and Cape Cod numerous times, this is something I wouldn't have done with the larger micro-cruiser/daysailor I used to own. Also, I don't have to pay for mooring/slips etc. as I used to.

Overall, a great little boat for daysailing with a minium of fuss.
