Traditionl model, fin keel (shoal draft) medium displacement hull. This is a well built Canadian Boat. Has a nice navigation station. It's weakness is that it has a shallow bilge and a lack of behind cushion and under floor storage. Overall, I would buy another.

We have owned this boat for nine years. She is our third sailboat.
A very strong and comfortable extened cruiser. Great headroom and comfortable accommodations. Good construction and finish with extensive factory installed equipment.
You will need extended swim ladder. Shore power plug-in and pump-out access are inconvenient. Engine access is poor.
She is a very sound and reliable vessel that will take conditions that I would not want to be in.

I have owned my CS36 for 5 years, she is my third boat. This boat continues to amaze me, we sail in the Channel Islands area of California and have varied wind conditions. The CS does well in both light and heavy conditions. We have bought new sails from Sobstad and had the topsides painted with LP. The boat still has the original standing rigging and I plan to replace that next year just as a precaution. However, there is no sign of any problems. We are very happy with this boat and plan to keep her for many years. The boat has poor storage space due to the two 50 gallon water tanks under the settees. The engine access is not great because in order to get to it you must remove the side panels which are in the cockpit locker and the quarterberth. This is not really as bad as it sounds but it does take some work. The engine is a Westerbke 27hp.
We have had some problems with stanchion bases cracking because both the stanchions and the bases are made out of cast aluminum. We plan to replace them both with stainless steel components when we redo the rigging.
All in all this is a great boat. My wife and I have been in some very rough condidtions with her and never had any doubts that she could handle the situation better than we could.

Have never owned CS36 but worked for CS Yachts 1978 through 1982. Have sailed Lake Ontario, Georgian Bay & Vancouver Island on this model. Know the "NUTS & BOLTS" aspect of this boat. Was lead hand on deck assembly line, worked closely with many buyers to customize deck layout (only two were built as cutter rigs). Also was responsible for infield service for warranty and after warranty service. Total 22 years in marine industry from painting bottoms to custom construction (CS, C & C, Hinterhoeller), from operations manager to yacht broker. JACK OF ALL TRADES/MASTER OF NONE! This pristine CS36 has everything including radar, gps.two radios,(cockpit and below),dinghy and davits,electronics, new dodgerand sun shade,fixed vang, furling genny and all lined led from cockpit including reefing. Bulkhead dinning table giving much more main salon room.Asking 65000.00 dollors.

CS 36 (not the Marlin) is so very well made and detailed. This boat has it all and not a deep draft which helps in todays receeding wataer levels. CS is the cadillac or Lexus of sail boats. She takes heavy weather very well in stride and is even very responsive in lighter air. My age is the only factor propmting me to sell her.

We have found our 36T to be an excellent performance cruiser that is well worth the slight price premium the boat demands.
The boat represent solid design ideas, the big picture is very well done, and yet also has lots of nice details and touches. The focus is on function, ability and durability, not on appearance and image.
The stock boat seems adequate for offshore use, for which its high displacement (16,500 lbs) is a plus. The boat is not targeted to round-the-bouys performance in light air, but excels in a breeze.
The boat has some weaknesses; fuel tank corrosion, shallow bilges, all well discussed in CSOA archives, but overall is a package that an experienced and demanding owner can fully appreciate and enjoy.
