I've owned a Dockrell 27 for one season now and am quite happy with it. They are not well known, but an almost identical boat is popular in England, under the name Hurley 27. they are full keel cutters, generally over-rigged with a conservative sail plan. That said, for some reason I find they sail very well in light air conditions. Nothing fancy in the construction, un-cored decks and hull, but at 7,000 pounds I feel like I could drop it an it would bounce. Essentially, I view the boat as one of a small club of boats that you could buy for $10,000 and safely take off across the Atlantic. Problems? Leaking and unaccessible chainplates, tiny ice box, and ventilation best suited for northern climes.
