This boat had the optional layout, very functional. The boat
is quite heavy and gives the feeling of a little ship. She
withstood 10,000 miles of pacific cruising without any com-
plaints.
It lends itself to singlehanding, or shorthanded crewing
quite well.
Only weakness was uncomfortable seating in cockpit.
I was extreamly satisfied with my Downeast 32 and only
moved up to another boat due to a change in maritial
status.

Cutter Ketch.
Comfortable cruising vessel.
Good sailer but not very fast in light winds.
Overall satisfacion - Quite good.

A very good boat, strong and seaworthy. I was surprised
at its speed in light air, and it does point well. The boat
looks like a world cruiser and I find myself always looking
back at her and thinking that looks like "the" boat. We
did a 500 mile trip to get it home in the spring, cold outside
but very comfortable downbelow wiith plenty of room, good
galley and a small engine room with nice layout of electric
and DC.

We have sailed her for 4 years and are going fulltime liveaboard cruising in Nov 00. Heading for the Bahamas and then the east coast and Caribbean for next few years. She is a solid well built cruiser that sails surprisingly well given her size and weight. We have done extensive retro fitting and rennovations - if interested in details - please email.

We sailed 20,000 miles across the Pacific on our Downeast 32 cutter sailboat. She proved to be a great cruiser and home for us.

Slow,Slow,and very slow boat. Would make a good tugboat.

I owned a Downeast 32 and I was the joke at my marina. They called it the "greased brick". Heavy,slow and no backrest in the cockpit. Very dated looks. When it came time to sell it was hard to sell.

Prior to the purchase of my DE 32 I owned a West Sail 32, a Hunter 30 and Irwin 35 and a Morgan 35. Each boat with a differnt purpose and sailing venue. The DE 32 and West Sail are in the same catagory - heavy blue water cutter rigged sail boats. The DE 32 is not a day sailor or light coastal boat designed for a quick trip to the Bahamas from Fort Pierce - unless the you happen to be traveling when the Gulf Stream unexpectedly kicks up against a 25 knot breeze. If that happens be happy you are sailing a DE 32. The DE 32 has more interior space than the West Sail and does not hobby horse like the double ender W 32. Points well and will travel at hull speed 6.4 knots in 15 + knots of breeze.
But it is not a day sailor or fair weather sailor - it will not circumnavigator at record speed but it will certain to return you to home after a circumnavigation
