Just bought the boat last fall and can't find out anything about the maker! She has standing headroom (6'1") sleeps 4, has icebox sink and head.I've been told that she was built in England and also told that she was built in the Georgian Bay area.Anybody know anything about the Georgian?? The Georgian 23 was built in OwenSound Ontario. I believe they were built from 1970 to 1976. My Grandfather had a 1974 with inboard diesel. This was a well built and safe boat.

I too have just bought a Georgian 23. I was told that this would be a great safe boat for a beginer. Finding out info on this boat is difficult, so if you have any info other than what is here or have a Georgian please contact me. I would love to discuss this great boat with a fellow owner. Thanks

I rececently bought a Georgian 20 it has a little less headroom but has the same basic layout as the G-23, as far as I know I have the only G20 in existance. It was built by Mcgruer & Clark in Owen Sound Ontario. Who are now out of business for 30 years.That is all I know. If you find out anymore info pass it on. I bougth my Georgan 4 years ago and I am very please with it's performance. It handle a good breeze and it is also roomy. For your information I have the original papers that came with went first sold. I will be glade to share it with you guys. I live on the Atlantic and the water is not always gentle...

Having owned a 23'Georgian let me give you a bit of history. This vessel was built by Mc Gure & Clark in Owen Sound, Ontario between 1970 and 1976. There wer approx. 75 boats built with the first 60 units completed at the factory and the remaining 15 or so sold at auction in various stages of completion. The original sails were made by Charlie Smith out of Toronto with the mainsail having the number of the boat stiched on it.
Construction consisted of cheap chip board for the tramsom and cabintrey, my personal vessel had a "second" keel meaning it had been taken out of the mold too soon and had a warp in it which had been filled with marine bondo. The vessel had plain steel bolts and when cash flow was good they used stainless steel keel bolts. Stress on the vessel resulted in cracks on the bulkhead usually near the cabin sole by the icebox. When replacing the gate valves I discovered the midship section of the hull was plywood and fiberglassed over. The starboard cockpit locker would leak causing the bottom portion of the locker by the ladder to rot as it was only made of chip board.
On the performance side, the boat had a high free board and with a displacement of 4350lbs and a iron keel of 2000lbs it was a very dry and stiff boat which of course made it a DOG in light air.
These are some of the defects I found but overall it was a pretty good starter boat. I would like to hear opinions from other Georgian owners and if anyone out there would like a photo copy of the original sales brouchure you can reply with your e mail. Thanks.

I own a Georgian 23, oddly enough called "Silver Bell".I bought her several years ago and have only grown more fond of her. Quite correct about being "a dog" in light winds, but the trade off with her high freeboard and cabin headroom is worth it to me.So far my only complaint is leaking cabin windows, which I hope to get at this summer.I also have most of her original papers. She came from the factory with a 12.9hp Chrysler outboard,which I replaced with a new 5hp Merc. Perhaps a little under powered for docking in gusty conditions, but most of the time the 5hp pushes her along just fine.

Hi silverbell, it's the same georgian allright. I bought her from, I believe his name was Ray.He bought her in Buffalo I think from you.I understand you purchased her new. He kept the boat only one season.This will be my third with her. Ray had the bottom professionally stripped and awlgripped,she's tight as a drum, although there's certainly some deck and window leaks. Any info regarding her would be of great interest to me. I have the original papers from when she was ordered. She's at Port Dalhousie Marina in St. Catharines. I'm hoping to have her in by April 15.

Hi Dave this is Ray aka Silverbell and you are right you bought the boat from me. I am still out west (retired now) and still kicking my butt for selling her to you. Bur I know she went to a good home and I plan to be back in Ontario this summer to buy another Georgian 23. I still have your business card somewhere and I'll call you when I am back east.

Seems we have quiite a few Georgians in the Stoney Creek area, I know of two more in the hamilton marinas. Perhaps we could orginise a sail in this summer. Any takers?

I know of Geogian owner who lives in New Brunswick and sails his boat in the Bay of Fundy which can be very rough. Another man owned Whisky Jack #56 I beleive and he sailed it out of PEI. The best person to Call is Ed @ Bridge Yachts in Port Dover, ON and have him tell you about the women who hired the newfie to sail her Georgian from Lake Ontario to Floridia. The way Ed tells it will make you bust a gut laughing.

I am glad to see other Georgian 23 owner's here. I own a 1974 powered by a 15 hp Honda called the Chinook Winds. I don't know the Hull number. I am the 5th owner here in Nova Scotia after the boat arrived from Ontario. It sails the Annapolis Basin and the Bay of Fundy without a hitch. Harder it blows the more it loves to sail. I have been maintaining it but this fall plan on renewing the hull and doing interior work. I noticed some of you have information. nice to hear from another owner!! I too will be doing some interior work on my girl, she needs a little renewing. So far I put a new teak table in down below and will start on a new teak and holly floor and a build a door for the hanging closet, once i get the fridge moved out of there. What do you have planned?
Silverbell sent me a photcopy of the original paper work for this boat, i will try to fax it over to you next week.
