The Holder 17 (also sold as the Vagabond 17) is a small trailerable cruiser that externally looks like a shrunken Catalina 22. The swing keel makes it sail like one, too. (And hummmmm like one!)

The boat has a heavy swing keel, which makes this relatively light boat very stable. It only displaces about 750 pounds, yet I could stand on the gunwale easily. Very stable. The boat sailed nicely, pointed well, and generally was fun to own.

The boat has 4 interior berths in a roomy cabin. It has s fair amount of storage, a porta-potty space that is very difficult to get to (some disassembly of v-berths is required to get to the portapotty and most of the stowage). There is very little other stowage, so if you use all four berths, the residents better not have much gear!

Complaints: Other than the lack of stowage, the pitifully small lazarette locker, the sandpapery non-skid surface, and the bash-your-knuckles-against-the-cockpit-sole swing keel winch, I really didn't have any.

Overall, the boat sailed nicely, rigged easily, and as a daysailer at a dock, it was just perfect. For voyaging, I didn't care for its lack of stowage and old it. But every now and then I see it around and only have fond memories!
