I have just taken delivery of my new Bavaria 44 (tree cabin layout). She was lauched in Dec. 2003 in the Cote d'Azur, France.
I sailed her with my wife to Italy.
She is easy to sail also singlehanded. (furling jib and inmast furling main with vertical battons and all electric winches).
We had strong winds up to 45 knots and big waves but she behaved and sailed very well.
I will keep you updated on our views after we have sailed her more this summer in the Med

One year later. (2004)
We had a beautifull sailing season in the Med. Enjoyed every minute of it (almost).
The first impression remains intact. Lots of space, easy to sail, also in bad weather.
After one year I am very happy. All systems work well, even the inmast furling main (Selden) and the electric winches (Harken) have had no problems at all. Very easy to use and very friendly. We sail two handed (I am 61) and they make a lot of difference.
The boat is not finished like a Swan, but it is well built and it is surprising how a boat that costs much less than others can offer so much. I am very happy with it. I believe that most of the people who critizies these boast have never had the chance to sail one.
The 44 has been now discontinued form the range, but the new 42 and 46 look even better!

I am 1 year older (it is 2005) and so is my Bav 44. The difference is that I look older and my boat look instead better!
We sailed her al summer and I can only confirm that if I had to by a new boat it wood be again a Bav 44 or perhaps the new Bav 46.
My wife and I are both very happy with her.

Also the 2006 season has gone by. Still a bit of it remains but the weather in the Med is not the same. We still have my Bavaria 44 and we are very happy with her. My wife and I have sailed extensively the Med also this year and the boat behaved very well. No problems to point out.
Only ordinary mantainance has been done and she is still like new. The time we spend on the boat is increasing. We feel very much at home when we are on board. We are happy with her.

Hello:
Do you have an electric winch to handle the main's and other halyards? If so how is the motor for this winch concealed in the port aft cabin?
I have a 2004 Bavaria 44 and will like to install a winch but am concern about how to conceal it's motor...
