We took delivery of our 2001 model Bavaria 37 in October of 2000. Akari now has nearly a year of Puget Sound cruising and she is a fine boat.
There are a few (very few) minor nitpicks I have about the boat, but on balance I'm very happy with her quality and handling. She is superb under sail and the handling under power in the marina is outstanding (love that saildrive).
She has classic looks that won't go out of style, a rich (but practical) interior that says "I'm a sailboat, dammit, not a harbor queen", and good quality hardware throughout.
If you are considering a Bavaria (a fine choice, dollar for dollar -- or euro for euro), a few tips:
- Spend the extra money on the deep lead keel and all that comes with it. The cheaper iron keel versions are substandard models intended for charter fleets.
- Keep on your dealer to make sure any commissioning errors are fixed. The factory quality is excellent, but we had some issues with commissioning and we've heard from others with similar (or worse) complaints.
