The Hylas 45.5 is a Freres design, center cockpit sloop. My
boat was built by Queen Long marine in Taiwan. The center
cockpit design allows for easy shorthanded sailing in any
conditions. The mainsheet ,traveller and jib sheets are all
accessible from the helm making singlehanded sailing
possible. As a reformed racing enthusiast performance is
critcal to my sailing enjoyment and this boat has not
disappointed. It sails well on all points of sail and in San
Francisco bay where the winds routinely exceed 20 knots its
ballast/disp.ratio of 50% makes for a stiff boat to weather.
Down below, the two cabin two head layout offers privacy and
comfort particularly for the owner with a centerline queen
berth in the aft cabin. Considerable fuel, water and storage
space makes long distance cruising comfortable.
