Pros:
Cons:

Only had this boat a short season so it is difficult to identify strengths/weaknesses. I have had to do considerable retabbing of bulkheads but apart from a few water leaks (ports)I have had no major issues. The boat has been used regularly and was in good to excellent condition per survey. This revealed no major problems. I would be interested in talking with other '84 31 owners to get some additional data on the boat. Have some original/copies of documentation and would like more.

Pros:
Cons:

I have owned this boat for about 10 months now and I am completely satisfied with my purchase. I will admit that while I have sailed on a lot of different boats this is the first one that I have owned myself so maybe this is just first boat owning pride. I have read a lot of negative comments about Irwins in general but the Citation line from this era seems to be as nice or nicer than a lot of other boats in the same year that we looked at. There are some minor problems with leaking ports but from what I understand that is not uncommon in any boat, even some of the new ones. This one is structuraly sound, sails well, the glass work has stood up better than a lot of other boats this old with almost no crazing, is layed out well, has ample storage for its size. Access to the engine is via the cockpit floor with easy access to both sides and the back. The only changes that I plan to make are to fix the leaking ports and run the rest of the lines aft for easier one-handed sailing. From the viewpoint of a couple, sailing inland, this is a great boat!
