The boat sails very well with speeds of 8 to 9 knots in 15 knot breeze. We have sailed circles around the Morgan Out Islands of similar size. Only criticism on the sailing is that it when sailing any less than 45 - 50 degrees into the wind the boat speed drops of dramatically. The windows were originally installed using 5200 as a sealant/caulking. It dries out and cracks over the years and was replaced with a sticky sealant that never becomes hard which works very well. The mast steps were made of steel Ibeam or box beam. We replaced ours with a stainless steel Beam and added drainage so water coming down the inside of the mast won't puddle at the mast base. We replaced our drive train with all stainless and put in an "aqua drive" which is very smooth with no vibration. A forced air furnace has been added, along with a watermaker. The air conditioning units have been removed which opens up a large amount of space. There were three units on board! The boat is very liveable, as we live on it year round. The boat gets sailed constantly. The overall satisfaction is very high. Contact me. I would like to hear from other Irwin 52 owners, where they have sailed and their experiences.
