Our catboat is red and it looks right somehow. Our Islander is blue and I am getting tired of it.

Faster's point about having a "flag color" under your finish color is good practice. Remember it is a simple thing to change so don't spend any sailing time deciding. Perhaps next year you will try something else as long as it is compatible.
