Re: A simple gear question for a new sailor

For me... i have gloves; i hardly use them for line handling. Just cold/cool weather. Nothing worse than cold hands and trying to function.
Foul weather gear... a must, any will do. For coastal sailing in warm weather something light and weatherproof, and remember to layer underneath. Bring fleece and long johns. You would be surprised how cool things can get fast.
*carmex
*sunscreen-need this
*good hat
*croakies for your glasses (don't wear sunglasses myself, Like to see what i'm gonna hit)

As far as heading in if inclement weather heads in; i hope not, your there to learn. Take advantage of it. Nothing like large swells and waves to get your blood pumping. The bigger the better.
