My battery storage area like me is vertically challenged. (i have improved the wiring to my batteries over the winter since this photo was taken.)
Lots of boats, including most CS built boats are vertical challenged. My new LiFePO4 bank won't fit in the factory location as it is 1/2" to tall. Had to find a new location... Arghh....
This bank is 390Ah and takes up 11.5" W X 14"L in foot print. That's pretty small for a 390Ah bank.. You can get L16's with capacities up to 450Ah in the same foot print...
This bank is going in a custom roto-molded battery box on a Pearson 36-2. It is going in the lazarette. The factory space for batteries on the P 36-2 is very limited so sometimes a custom approach is needed....
BTW when I picked this bank up yesterday (freshly ordered) it was resting at 12.72V (technically "full") yet it took 30A of in-rush current then quickly tapered down to about 5A. After many hours of charging, at 14.8V, it was taking about 0.8A. I then dropped the voltage back down to 14.4v for about 5 more hours and it was then taking just 0.1A at 14.4V. This is a FULLY charged 390Ah battery taking just 0.1A to maintain 14.4V or just 0.02% acceptance.
This is why we rarely if ever see a true "full" on sailboats. I started at "full", based on open circuit voltage, and it still took many hours to actually get to a true full charge...
