I have some very thin rowing gloves. They have fine mesh on the back of the hand, protecting me from sun burn as well (I'm rather sensitive to the sun). They're not for really hard work, but the fake leather palms really protect the hands well, and allows you to grip even when wet (they don't get "slimey" when wet. They are full fingered. I don't like 3/4 length gloves.

Edit: I notice after doing the above search, that they now also have a winter version. I don't have those. I only have the summer version.
