Unfortunately we have a different experience with these birds.. They seem to like our mooring area as potential nesting. We leave for the weekend and by the start of the following weekend there is almost a complete nest built on our solar panel.
We had boats on moorings that have sat for weeks and when the owners finally come by what a surprise they find with three foot high nests on there bows with bird poop to solidify every thing!
It's interesting to watch our mooring neighbors build all kind of anti-Ospray nesting contraptions to ward off their nesting activities. From CD's on fishing line to fake owls and snakes hanging from standing rigging.
Though our boat was in a slip this past weekend we had a couple of Ospreys circling our boat eying it as a potential target for another nesting season...
You can help to live in peace together by gathering this community of boaters and come up with alternate solutions suggested here like creating places for them to perch on...Obviously, this mooring area seems to also stand in prime real estate for them (food, weather, etc)...Get one of your local habitat organizations/bird watch groups to help you out and I'm sure you will see success...
