Nova Scotia currents

I live in Halifax area - don't sail outside of the harbor much (yet), but I don't believe tidal currents are an issue.
To my understanding tidal currents are caused by large amounts of tidal water moving thru small spaces (narrow channels, shallow areas or between islands).
Eastern NS is open to the ocean - so the tide has lots of area to move through and as a result does not develop any significant speed. That changes as you get into Halifax Harbor or Bras d'Or lake where the tide is moving thru narrower passages.
You will likely encounter some tidal currents around islands or larger bays (St Margaret's bay) - but since everything is mostly open I doubt currents are too significant.
