The days of pitching your book to publishers are over. Nowadays the drill is to pitch to agents. If an agent is interested, they will sell it to a publisher for you. Obviously, part of their being interested is that they think they can sell the book to a publisher.
Also, it's very easy to make e-books available on Amazon and other sites. Sort of like electronic self-publishing. He can do this himself. Then the trick is to get people to see that it's for sale. It's probably about as challenging as getting people to read your blog.
Keep in mind that I know even less about publishing than I do about sailing!
