Unless the trailer was WAY overloaded good welds should last for a LONG time. Perhaps the original design allowed an unusual amount of flexing, causing the weld to fail. Or, the original weld was faulty. You might want to consider adding some extra support pieces in that area if the weight is close to the maximum carrying capacity. Suggest you find a trailer manufacturing or metal fabrication shop to do the welding, in most cases, you get what you pay for.
