We all should try and handle the boat under "no power" conditions, even if would mean just dropping the anchor to stay out of trouble when the engine becomes unavailable in a confined channel... but, mostly we don't. File it with MOB drills...
We teach it as part of our advanced level courses. May be it should be dome earlier.
I have also had to dock a 41 foot Saga (seized alternator)and a 35 foot C&C (fouled cutlass bearing), I have practiced on Beneteau 461, Nauticat 37 and a few others.
The San Juan 21 fleet in Calgary is engineless as they sail on the drinking water reservoir.
