I also travel and am pretty much an Expat. I live out of three suitcases, one of which is all dive gear. My boat is in Kemah and I do live there when I am in the US. I suppose I am a liveaboard because it is my home when I am not working.
The only advice I feel qualified to offer is to find a boat that fits the need. Smaller was better for me. 30 foot, bluewater capable and room enough for the essentials. Corpus is great and stayed there a while, but with the goal of getting out and heading south, the location of the marina and facilities were secondary to the boat, so I decided to keep her at South Shore Harbor and get the refit work done in area.
