Shower pump question

My Spirit 28 has a cramped head with a shower pan and necessary plumbing. But the shower pan gravity drains to the bilge (not ideal, for obvious reasons).

I know that a shower sump is the standard way to handle shower drains, but there isn't room, either in the bilge or under the shower, to install a dedicated sump.

Would it be feasible for me to simply install a small diaphram pump (like the whale gulper) inside the bilge to intercept the shower drain and pump overboard? I'd need to figure out a control scheme -- perhaps a manual on/off switch would be sufficient.

I don't plan to use the shower very often, so I don't way to spend large amounts of money, but it would be nice to have it available on occasion.

Thoughts?
