Re: Price negotiation on a new boat
The only rich people I've ever seen anywhere in the "yachting" world are some of the customers. I've never seen a dealer or a broker who could afford one of the big boats they sell.
Every spring when the new big boats arrive here I see them on the hard with the keels, rigs and a lot of the deck gear alongside them. The dealers have to install all that stuff - a not inconsiderable job, install all the optional equipment, paint the bottom, mount zincs, sail test the boat, correct any problems etc. etc. etc.
It takes a LOT of money beyond the dealers invoice price before they are anywhere near making a profit.
