The RNLI is almost entirely run on donations, with many of their crew and support people volunteers. They get virtually nothing from the UK Government which is frankly criminal considering the number of mariners they have rescued from the treacherous waters around the UK over the years.
If you're ever in that part of the world, put your hand in your pocket and drop a few pounds into their collection jars. A visit to an RNLI lifeboat station is always worth it too, the boats are fascinating. My dad has built several museum quality models for them, amazing!
