Our biggest disappointment in the South Pacific was Bora-Bora. People were not very friendly and it was just too touristy. Moorea on the other hand we loved.
I had a totally different experience in Bora Bora, we where there for Bastille day and got invited to two party's with the locals, and the Highlight was being invited and attending a true Polynesian wedding. In 2008 the yacht club had just changed hands and was closed for renovations, We still stayed there using their moorings; We felt like part of the family.
I spent 2 weeks at Moorea love that place as well, but had less interaction with the locals.
