Thane has 250 sq feet of gaff mizzen on a hull length of 40 ft. Back before I installed an engine I would use the North wind to back down on fisherman's wharf. The usual wind is SE or West in which case I'd just tack up and luff. Timing was critical because of 22 tons and the sheets did double duty as mooring lines.Times have changed . Now I can afford the right stuff and law says you can;t sail in the harbour.
