Re: How to make my own sail?

The company that sells the poly sails kits is Polysails Int. ant it is a good way to get sails for old small boats.
Again, I recc a lateen sail because it gives a huge amount of sail area using a short mast without any stays to hold the mast up and they are very easy to make.
A lateen sail has a mast and two spars that make a triangle with a vertex near the mast. The difficult part is joining these two spars so they can move in rrelation to each other. I put a wood plug in each spar with an eye bolt in each with the eyes joined. It is possible to reef a lateen sail and I have a design for this but have never implemented it. Sailing a small boat in strong wind is interesting. Always carry a paddle for when the wind dies.
