If you start your day on the west side of the Mississippi, past the locks, you can easily hit Houma and then Morgan City in a day's travel. I know people that have anchored between Morgan City and the Mermetau River, but there's no what I would call "good" anchorages. Since I had crew, we left Lake Charles, heading east, and then at nightfall, got behind a barge and followed them through the night (including a lock). From Lake Charles, it's another 3 days to Galveston.
