Most people operate the choke in fully open or fully closed position. That is not the best practice. A lot of times when the weather is fairly warm (mid 50's) half choke is the best way to go when starting. If you use too much choke you will likely flood the motor and have a hard time starting it. Find the right amount of choke for your motor and really listen to how it reacts.
