You will also want to ensure that when you buy your
charts for the area that you are sailing in , that they are indeed the most recent
charts. On the
Garmin website, you can go look up and see what the latest chart release is. As well, make sure that you check the chart detail list for the chart package you are buying (also on the
Garmin webpage). I got the shock of my life when the chart package for my area did not contain the
charts for two of the largest areas that we sail in. Even though
Garmin advertises that it covers all of Eastern Newfoundland and parts of Labrador. So make sure that the areas that you will be sailing in has the
charts you need. In any case, you will want the paper charts anyway. Don't rely on electronic charts as the sole means of navigation.
